![]() "My Country" The striking 23x9" Limited Edition rendition of Chief Joseph (Young Joseph) & General Oliver O. Howard by Artist Bob Bolin depicts the dramatic struggle over the ancestoral Wallowa lands occupied by Joseph's Wallowa band and the Military. The military was the protector of Europeon settlers settling the American West. The lands they chose to occupy were land occuped by Native Americans. "My Country" begs the question, "Whose land is it?" Joseph maintained that the Wallowa lands were fraudulently taken from the Wallowa band, and by 1877 the confrontation with the Military enforcing Government policy broiled over into the Nez Perce War of 1877.
