In order to address the critical shortage of housing for the members of the Nez Perce Tribe, the Nez Perce Tribal Housing Authority (NPTHA) was organized pursuant to Nez Perce Tribe Executive Committee Ordinance adopted in 1961.  According to the Ordinance, the NPTEC appoints 5 members to the Board of Commissioners.  However, the General Council recommends the appointments by election and the NPTEC confirms by resolution.  Each member serves 4 years upon their regular appointment.  Terms are staggered to provide continuity.

The NPTHA, is a legal separate entity of the Nez Perce Tribal Government, and it exists as a legal nonprofit empowered to issue bonds, provide financing, and enter into contracts with the federal government and private groups for the purpose of planning, developing and implementing comprehensive housing assistance plans.
